시화(詩畵) : 일상과 영감의 캔버스
‘시화(詩畵)‘는 나태주 시인이 세상의 모든 풀꽃에게 눈 맞춤을 건네듯, 우리 주변의 사소하고 가까운 것들 속에서 아름다움을 발견하고 노래하는 그의 겸허한 시선을 건축의 언어로 구현한 공간이다. 시인의 삶의 터전인 동시에, 그의 고요한 일상이 한 폭의 시(詩)와 회화(畵)로 조화를 이루는 창조의 캔버스가 된다.
건축은 스스로를 드러내기보다 기존의 풍경에 순응하는 절제된 태도를 취한다. 시인의 시선처럼, 이 집은 과장된 주장 없이 주변의 길과 도로의 흐름에 조용히 몸을 맡긴다. 입구는 찾아오는 이를 따뜻하게 환대하는 분위기를 자아내지만, 결코 두드러지려 하지 않는다. 건축물의 형태는 주변 자연에 깊이 스며들어, 마치 오랜 시간 그 자리에 있었던 것처럼 고요히 존재하며 풍경과의 완전한 일치를 추구한다.
대지 전면에 고요히 펼쳐진 일월 저수지는 주택의 가장 중요한 영감의 원천이다. 고요함 속에서 무한한 생명력을 잉태하는 시적 환경은 시인의 사색에 깊은 운율을 제공하며, 우리는 저수지와 대지 사이의 인위적인 벽을 허물어 경계를 해체하고, 시인의 마음이 자연의 흐름과 직접 연결되도록 한다. 그리하여 이 집은 인공적인 피난처가 아닌, 자연 속에 깊이 뿌리내린 한 편의 목가적인 시가 된다. 집의 모든 창문은 계절의 변화와 빛의 흐름을 고스란히 담아내는 액자가 되며, 모든 요소는 저수지의 고요함과 생명력을 섬세하게 흡수한다.
Si Hwa (詩畵): The Canvas of Daily Life and Inspiration
This home, ‘Si Hwa’ (詩畵), is a space that materializes the humble gaze of the poet Na Tae-joo in the language of architecture—a gaze that finds and sings about the beauty in small, intimate things surrounding us, just as he acknowledges every single wildflower. It is not only the foundation of the poet’s life but also a creative canvas where his tranquil daily routine achieves harmony as a poem (詩) and a painting (畵).
The architecture adopts a restrained attitude, choosing to yield to the existing landscape rather than assert itself. Like the poet’s perspective, the house quietly follows the flow of the surrounding paths and roads without any exaggerated claims. The entrance creates a welcoming atmosphere for visitors, yet it never seeks attention, silently holding its ground. The form of the building deeply permeates the surrounding nature, existing tranquilly as if it has been there for a long time, pursuing complete unity with the landscape.
The Ilwol Reservoir, spread calmly across the front of the site, is the most crucial source of inspiration for the house. This poetic environment, which harbors infinite vitality within its stillness, provides a deep rhythm for the poet’s contemplation. We tear down the artificial wall between the reservoir and the site to deconstruct boundaries, allowing the poet’s spirit to connect directly with the flow of nature. Thus, the house becomes not an artificial shelter, but a piece of a pastoral poem deeply rooted in nature. Every window of the house becomes a frame that wholly captures the changing seasons and the flow of light, and every element subtly absorbs the stillness and vitality of the reservoir.
Program
서로 다른 의미와 기능을 가진 두 개의 독립된 볼륨, 두 채의 이야기로 구성된다. 이는 시인에게 필수적인 일상과 고독 사이의 건강한 균형을 제공하기 위함이다. 한 채는 가족의 온기와 일상이 흐르는 ‘삶의 공간‘으로, 교류와 휴식의 장소인 가족실, 주방, 침실 등 일상 생활 영역을 담아낸다. 다른 한 채는 시인의 고독한 성찰과 창조적 영감을 위한 ‘사색의 공간‘으로, 오롯이 시인 혼자만의 영역인 전용 서재, 작업실, 명상 공간으로 이루어진다.
이 두 이야기, ‘삶의 공간‘과 ‘사색의 공간‘은 단순히 나란히 서 있는 것이 아니라, 대지 전체를 관통하는 ‘영감의 영역(The Realm of Inspiration)‘을 통해 유기적으로 연결한다. 이 공간은 건물과 건물을 잇는 기능적 통로를 넘어, 시인이 대지의 다양한 지점에서 영감을 얻고, 일상과 예술 창조를 조화롭게 조율하는 비선형적이고 확장된 사색의 영역이 된다. ‘시화‘는 이처럼 사소한 것들에서 영감을 얻어 탄생한 시인의 삶과 철학을 고스란히 담아내는, 가장 문학적이고 겸손한 거처가 된다.
The dwelling is structured into two independent volumes with distinct meanings and functions, constituting “Two Narratives”. This is intended to provide the poet with a crucial, healthy balance between daily life and solitude. One volume is the ‘Space of Life,’ where the warmth of family and daily routines flow, containing everyday living areas such as the family room, kitchen, and bedrooms—places for interaction and rest. The other volume is the ‘Space of Contemplation,’ dedicated to the poet’s solitary reflection and creative inspiration, comprising the poet’s exclusive realm: a private study, studio, and meditation space.
These two narratives, the ‘Space of Life’ and the ‘Space of Contemplation,’ are not merely positioned side-by-side; they are organically linked through the ‘Realm of Inspiration’ that permeates the entire site. This space transcends the function of a mere functional corridor connecting the buildings; it becomes a non-linear, expanded realm of contemplation where the poet gathers inspiration from various points across the site and harmoniously balances daily life with artistic creation. ‘Si Hwa,’ in this way, is the most literary and humble dwelling, faithfully embodying the life and philosophy of the poet born from inspiration found in the small things.
